After around a month and a half as part of a college project Alex Mold, David Bain and Curtis Machen have been working on a Flash platform type game. We posted a beta version a little while ago, but have made some major changes to the game. Feel free to try it out for yourself and let us know what you think!
This is a smaller version of the game, play a full size version at

It's coming together
So we recently posted a little concept tester for the game, since then we have slightly modified the graphics and have implemented other elements such as the enemies and tutorial parts. The enemies act as a sort of primary obstacle; the secondary obstacles will include objects (such as a live electrical current or difficult jump). Through these put together we have managed to come up with our level designs. Here is a screen shot of some of the production process:
We aim to have a better playable test out by the end of this week, and we aim to gain feedback from people so that we can change anything should we need to before our deadline a week today. Essentially all of the graphical elements have been completed, as well as most of the Flash work. All there is left to do is really put the sounds in to the game, to really add that professional feel and to bring it up to the industry standard.
We will post a link to an online feedback form once we have the playable demo online, we could use all the feedback we can with this game! In short, it will just be a few quick questions generally asking what you liked and did not like about the game.
It's safe to say though at this stage the game is definitely coming together quite nicely. Our production file has also almost been completed (except for the evaluations and audience feedback obviously).

More on graphics
Previously we posted a little snippet of some of the design
work, the ‘Little I.T. Guy’ himself in fact. Since then we have designed a few
more characters we have named the ‘Viruses.’ These will be the enemies, or foes
of the game. Alongside this we have been working on the other graphical aspects
of the game including the backgrounds and level design. We have made a few
posters showing off the new characters. However, there will be more characters
and design features to come! More importantly, we will have playable demo’s
coming up in the near future.
We feel that this is a somewhat important stage in the
development of the game as we are set on the design of this adventure, and the
graphical assets are starting to come together. Coding-wise we are in the
initial stages of building the game. More on this as the game develops but we
have to be set on a game engine, or alternatively we may create our own sort of
engine from scratch.
If you haven’t already, be sure to like us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/LittleITGuy)
for our smaller updates on the game too. We will be posting playable demos when
they are available on Facebook as well as on this blog.
Exciting stuff is on the way indeed. So, stay in the loop
for more content very soon. We need testers for the initial versions of the
game, we need feedback!

Flash and Gaming Engines
Designing a game in Flash opens a whole window of interactive and dynamic opportunities within the game, but more functionality can be added to the game by using engines. An engine is an additional API code that's loaded into Flash with the project, giving you additional functionality depending on which engine you use. Engines will be based around improving areas of Flash such as 3D, Physics and creating games. Popular engines include PushButton, Citrus Engine and Box2D all with varying features and advantages.
